Meet the WWSTA committee

 Chris Toa - Chairperson

I have been on 2 Boards, Titahi Bay North School from 1993 to 2008 and was Chair from 1995 - 2007.  Also Mana College since 2006 and became the Chair this year.

I joined the WWSTA management team after my first meeting in 1995 because I was very impressed by not only the wealth of knowledge around the table but also their passion.

Fourteen years later 2009, I am the Chair. I learnt a lot from those people over this time but more importantly, I still have that same passion.

Will I be as good as past Chairs?

I hope so, only time will tell, however there is one thing that I will say and that is I will do all I can to enhance the lives and opportunities for all children - because school trusteeship is all about children.

I became a trustee in 2007 and became Chairperson of the Board of Khandallah School in early 2008.  I joined the management team of WWSTA in 2008, after the successful conference held in Wellington.  I agree with Marshall that being part of the WWSTA management team has been a great source of support and information about best practice in school governance and I would encourage other trustees to consider joining the team.  Being a school trustee is a part-time role and I often find it very helpful to talk through current issues with other, experienced trustees.  Besides, it's a lot of fun - seriously!!

Rose Wyse

I have been a trustee member at Naenae Primary School since October 2000.  I was Chair from 2001 to 2007 elections.  Although I was still on the Board I
did not become Chair for 2 years but again became Chair in 2009  and  am the current Chair.  I became involved with the school in 1994 when my oldest
child started there.  I have been involved since then as I believe in
advocating for children so they can gain a quality education.  I like to be
able to address the issues so the solution best suits the needs of the
children not the government.  I joined WWSTA in 2010 after the AGM as I
thought about what I could contribute to help other schools extending to
more children.  I can also learn more about the educational environment by
being involved with my peers in providing the services that WWSTA does to
the schools so the children will ultimately benefit from the work being
done.
